Over a career spanning more than 75 years, Jones became a cultural giant. He won 28 Grammy Awards and was celebrated as one of the 20th century’s most influential jazz musicians by *Time* magazine. He helped redefine popular music, notably producing Michael Jackson’s *Thriller*, which became the best-selling album of all time. In 1985, he brought together 46 of America’s top musicians, including Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, and Cyndi Lauper, to record “We Are the World,” a song he co-wrote to support famine relief in Ethiopia. The song topped charts worldwide and became an anthem of humanitarian solidarity.
His influence extended to film and television, scoring over 50 soundtracks, including *The Italian Job*, and producing *The Color Purple*, which introduced audiences to Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg. He also brought *The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air* to television, helping launch Will Smith’s career.

He leaves behind a legacy of groundbreaking music, film, and television work, as well as a family that includes seven children, among them music producer Quincy Jones III and actress Rashida Jones.
