Morrisons has revealed plans to expand its presence in the Channel Islands by opening 15 additional stores across Jersey, Guernsey, and Alderney. This announcement follows the successful completion of the UK retailer’s acquisition of 36 convenience stores from SandpiperCI.

These stores, currently operating under the Iceland, Chequers Express, and Le Cocq brands, will undergo rebranding. A Morrisons spokesperson confirmed that all locations, except for two Le Cocq stores, will transition to the Morrisons format in the coming months.

Expansion Details Jersey, home to 16 existing Morrisons Daily stores, will see the addition of eight newly rebranded locations. Guernsey, with three existing Morrisons Daily stores, will benefit from the addition of seven more. Alderney will retain the two Le Cocq stores, which will remain under their current branding.

A significant investment of over £7 million will fund the conversion and rebranding programme. Morrisons aims to enhance the customer experience and strengthen its presence across the islands.

Welcoming New Colleagues Rami Baitiéh, Chief Executive of Morrisons, expressed his excitement about the expansion, stating: “I am delighted that now the transaction has completed, we can welcome 520 new colleagues into the Morrisons family. It’s a great business with great colleagues, and we are all looking forward to the exciting next chapter.”

This move marks an important milestone for Morrisons as it continues to grow and serve the Channel Islands with a stronger retail offering.
